We survived a day without Instagram! And I will not let it deter us from celebrating amazing women… so this week’s day-late #WCW goes out to basketball all-star, @candaceparker. I first met Candace, a Chicago native, at a party and I fan-girled hard and told her I had watched her dominate at Tennessee under legendary coach Pat Summit… and we’ve been cracking jokes and playing spades ever since. Falling in love with the game of basketball after seeing older brother & former NBA Player Anthony Parker play, Candace worked hard to become one of the best players of all time. Watching her win the WNBA championship after the passing of Coach Summit was one of most heartbreaking and heartwarming moments in sports history. Being first overall pick in the 2008 WNBA Draft, a WNBA Champion, 5x WNBA All-Star, 2x WNBA MVP, 2x NCAA championship winner, and a 2x Gold Medalist are just a few of her outstanding accomplishments throughout her basketball career thus far. Parker is more than just a star on the court, she is also a major inspiration to all of those around her. Off the court, Candace is a mother of a 9 year old, broadcaster on the popular “Player’s Only” & an inspiration to women everywhere. Let us lift her up in the light of goodness and hold her there.

This week’s #WCW is grace personified, the incredible and stunning @iamjhud.From the first time I met her, she felt like someone I have known my whole life. She’s always quick with a hug, and has a presence that can fill a room with joy. Her transition from singer to actress was seamless, only further proving her natural born talents. With Academy Awards, Golden Globes, Grammy’s and more on her shelves, she still exudes generosity. She is a mother and a role model to many, and I hope to spend more time getting to know her. More big things to come! Can’t wait to watch her in Cats this year! Let us lift her up in the light of goodness and hold her there.

Today’s #WCW is @cynthiaerivo. Her talent is GIGANTIC! I will gleefully admit to going down the rabbit hole of her performances on YouTube and cheering and weeping at her brilliance. I 1st met her at the end of a long line for portraits at the Vanity Fair Oscar party and in the 1st few moments after introduction, we hugged like long lost family members. I truly SAW her in her fullness of spirit and she SAW me. It’s a moment I will never forget and always cherish. Sometimes you meet your crushes and they are everything you need them to be and so much more. Cynthia is so much more. After earning a Tony for Best Leading Actress in “The Color Purple” Erivo wasn’t stopping anytime soon. Known for her work in Step (2017), Widows (2018) and Bad Times at the El Royale (2018), Erivo has proven to tackle the transition from Broadway to the big screen flawlessly. Keep an eye out for Chaos Walking – her next feature film coming out March 2019. Let us lift her up in the light of goodness and hold her there.

There are times I workout for a job or specific athletic goals but usually I workout to maintain my peace. Sometimes i grunt, grimace, scream…many times I’ve cried while training. I’ve cried due to frustration. I’ve cried from physical pain. Many times I’ve cried as my fears and anxiety leave my body. For me, I’m always working out my spirit and exercising my soul. This morning felt like the end of a week of taking Ls, but today I got up and reminded myself that even when I lose, I win because I’m committed to learning and evolving. To anyone struggling with things we can’t control and even things we can… sending you love and light.

Today as we are working in the rain and I have the urge to complain and whine, I found strength and drive remembering Ms. Diana Ross performing under crazy circumstances and being the consummate legend that she continues to be. Which brings me to this week’s #WCW, the one and only @DianaRosswhose career spans more than four iconic decades. Straight out of high school she was already shining bright as the lead vocalist for best charting girl group in US history, the Supremes. She is a 12-time Grammy nominee, recipient of the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, was Billboard’s Female Entertainer of the Century, winner of the YMA Awards of Excellence at Kennedy Center Honors… and that is just a fraction of her nominations and wins. Her performance at the Grammy awards this past weekend had the entire audience up on their feet in awe of her larger than life talent. Whenever I need to get a mood going, I throw on some of her music, and I feel fiercer than ever. Let us lift her up in the light of goodness and hold her there.

This week’s #WCW is @staceyabrams, the first black woman in history to give the Democratic rebuttal at the State of the Union. Last night she delivered a stunning address that hit me to my core. While division and hypocrisy are prevalent, Former Georgia gubernatorial candidate shared themes of community, faith and family; highlighting the success we see when Americans come together. Abrams also touched on our recent government shutdown as a stunt by the President and urged Congress to consider a range of other issues including education, gun control, immigration reform, climate change, and voter suppression.
